Wonder if they read Small Business Trends
February 5, 2007 |
This week’s NDE News reports that Inuit has made a few predictions in the first installment of its Inuit Future of Small Business Report that may sound a bit familiar to those of you who took a glance at my own 2007 Microbusiness Trends article published by Anita Campbell over at Small Business Trends.
For example, Inuit says:
- The emergence of a new breed of entrepreneurs: Entrepreneurs will become more diverse, more international, and will come from the “edges of the age spectrum.” In other words, we should expect a simultaneous jump in the number of both young entrepreneurs and older boomer generation entrepreneurs.
- The number of sole proprietorship - what the study calls personal businesses - will continue to boom and become an important part of the US economy.
- Entrepreneurship education will also boom as more schools and disciplines embrace entrepreneurial training.
I didn’t predict that last one although, if I’d been making 10 year predictions instead of one-year predictions, I would have.
It’s nice to know that somebody out there agrees with me.

My name is Steve King and I am part of the Institute for the Future team that is working on the Intuit/IFTF Future of Small Business project. In answer to your question, we do read “Small Business Trends” and Anita Campbell was one of the experts that contributed to our study. We saw your article on Small Business Trends, but it was after we had already finished the first installment of our report series. So just as it is nice to know someone agrees with you, it is also nice to know someone agrees with us:).
FYI, we also read The MicroEnterprise Journal.
