The MicroEnterprise Journal has been in publication continuously since September 1999.

There are many definitions of a microbusiness, with the most commonly accepted definition being: a microbusiness is a small business with fewer than five employees and less than $35,000 in startup costs.

However, The MicroEnterprise Journal defines a microbusiness as "a business that is so small that no one person employed by the business (including the business owner) does only one thing, and in which all employees have multiple responsibilities in management, production, and sales." In other words, a microbusiness is defined less by its size than by how its size dictates the way in which it operates.

Wahmpreneur Publishing, Inc.

Wahmpreneur Publishing, Inc. (WPI) is a privately-held, woman-owned subchapter-S corporation with offices located in upstate New York. Wahmpreneur Publishing, Inc. was incorporated in March 2000.

The book publishing division of WPI publishes business books for microbusiness owner-operators in print paperback and hardcover formats. Wahmpreneur Books offers one to three new releases each year. In addition, Wahmpreneur Books publishes up to five titles annually through its fiction imprint, Brighid's Fire Books.

Corporate Mission

Wahmpreneur Publishing, Inc. exists to further the interests of microenterprise owners, and to aid and encourage microenterprises at every stage of their evolution.

To serve these ends, WPI pursues a policy of the highest ethical standards in the journalism profession with respect to its periodical publications. Because much of our material is not covered at all in the mainstream press, WPI publications are often the only news source for the information we make available to our readers. It is thus all the more incumbent upon us to ensure that the information reported by WPI publications is timely, relevant and accurate.

An important facet of serving the interests of microenterprise owners is helping them to secure their rightful place in the fabric of American business and culture. Although they comprise the vast bulk of all U.S. firms, the financial earnings they realize are usually relatively small (most of them earn less than $50,000 in annual revenues according to data from the U.S. Census Department). Given the long hard hours involved in the operation of these business, clearly their owners enjoy rewards that are more profound than simple cash. These extraordinary people embody the ethos of what we imagine to be the American spirit. Our policy makers and our media outlets must stop ignoring them; they deserve to enjoy the warmth of overwhelming public approval.

In all its endeavors, Wahmpreneur Publishing, Inc. seeks to honor the microbusiness choice and everything it implies: inclusion for the excluded, participation for the disenfranchised, self-sufficiency for the dependent, the willingness to work hard for one's rewards, and the courage to step up to the plate and make a future.
