Sidney, NY — The Syracuse District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration recently named local businesswoman Dawn Rivers Baker as Small Business Journalist of the Year.

Ms. Baker was honored for her work as journalist and editor of The MicroEnterprise Journal, an Internet-based news weekly for microbusiness owners and the self-employed. Baker's publishing company, Wahmpreneur Publishing, Inc., also publishes a print newsletter called The MicroEnterprise Monthly, and management books under the company's Wahmpreneur Books imprint.

Ms. Baker's name was placed in nomination for the award by Don Wilson, president of the Association of Small Business Development Centers. Letters in support of the nomination were also supplied by Francie Ward, CEO of the Business Owner's Idea Cafe, and Terry Neese, co-founder and president of Women Impacting Public Policy.

As the small business journalist representing the Syracuse District, Ms. Baker will move into competition for the state-wide award. One of the fifty state winners will ultimately be selected to receive the SBA Office of Advocacy 2003 Small Business Journalist of the Year Award.
